RIP Martin Gastanaga, AKA Skullsucker
Martin Patrick Gastanaga (49) died May 14, 2016 in a tragic motorcycle accident. Martin lived a life of great adventure, excitement, love and laughter. Born June 24, 1966 in Reno, Nevada, Martin was proud to be a fourth generation Nevadan. He spent his childhood in Lake Tahoe, moved to Reno in high school and graduated from Reno High in 1985. He attended UNR but got sidetracked opening his first business, Aztech Cyberspace (which later became Twelve Horses) with his dear friend Jay MacDonald. He held various positions in the technology industry, and was most recently employed with Renown Medical Center.
His family, friends and mostly his son, Keltin Gastanaga, were the focus of his life. He was known for working hard and playing even harder. He has been described as “an incredible mix of irreverent rock and roller and big hearted mellow monster”. Martin had too many adventures to list - traveling the world, ski racing, working on a fishing boat in Alaska, camping, cabin trips in Paradise Valley and countless motorcycle adventures across the Northern continent.
He is preceded in death by his mother Nancy Patrick and grandmother Billie Patrick. Martin is survived by his son Keltin Gastanaga, sisters Jessica Gastanaga and Dena Schmidt (Gerritt Schmidt), father Jose Gastanaga, second mother Gloria Gastanaga, aunt Mimi Patrick, cousins Kris Lohse and Steve Lohse, niece and nephew Nikki Avera and Gage Avera, and countless friends and family whom he loved dearly.
